| Ex-contractor: U.S. in Iraq 'permanently'
The United States likely will have a presence in Iraq forever, a former military contractor told a Battle Creek peace group on Monday. "There are four or five places over there that are picked out so that we can be there permanently," Wayne Young told 16 people gathered in the basement of First United Methodist Church for a regular Voices of Peace meeting. "That's Wayne's opinion based on meetings Wayne sat in over the last year talking about expansion." .
SGPC again expands itself
The SGPC today promoted five employees as assistant secretaries and two as additional secretaries, making the mini parliament of the Sikhs top-heavy. Avtar Singh today issued the promotion orders, which were his first order after becoming SGPC president for the third consecutive year. Interestingly, the SGPC had four full-fledged secretaries against one post during the tenure of Gurcharn Singh Tohra, who reigned the SGPC for 27 years. With the new promotions, the number of assistant secretaries and additional secretaries has risen to 15 and eight, respectively. Though the SGPC chief has claimed that the promotions will not put any additional burden on the exchequer of the SGPC, insiders say the newly promoted employees will be entitled to use the additional facilities like telephone, official vehicle etc.
New ActivePure Technology Proven To Reduce Exposure to Methicillin ...
GREENVILLE, Tenn., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- A new technology known as ActivePure (RCI), developed by Tennessee-based EcoQuest International, has been proven in peer-reviewed, published university laboratory studies to reduce Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) on inoculated surfaces. Recent outbreaks of MRSA in many school districts have had school administrators and parents concerned. Based on NASA research, ActivePure (RCI) has been proven in laboratory testing at Kansas State University to reduce MRSA by more than 99 percent in 24 hours on surface areas. This has enormous implications for reducing exposure to infection-causing germs. "ActivePure safely inactivates germs in the environment 24 hours a day, without sprays or wipes, the same way it happens in nature," said EcoQuest Founder Mike Jackson.
COLUMN: Concealed handguns on college campus unacceptable
If you are carrying a concealed weapon, you don't just throw it in your belt and call it done. Why? Because it is highly unsafe and down right stupid. Have you ever even held a gun? The safety isn't some magical thing, it's not some dial that you have to turn so many times in each direction. It's a button, you push it and it's off. That easy. If somebody has made up their mind that they are going to conceal a weapon, they pass the class, and are actually carrying one. They don't need to think about the moral implications of killing another human being. They have already decided that if it came down to it, they are willing to pull the trigger. To be honest, pulling the trigger would be the easiest part in the entire process. It would be much more difficult for me to actually decide if it is right and lawful enough for me to use my weapon against another human being.
