Gretna P-P Dundee Utd

Gretna's Scottish Premier League match against Dundee Utd on Saturday has been postponed because of a waterlogged pitch at Fir Park.

Fir Park was ruled unfit after an inspection at 0900 GMT on Saturday, and the match has been rearranged for Tuesday, 4 March, at 1945 GMT.

It is the latest in a series of postponements at Fir Park.

That is despite the fact Motherwell recently spent 40,000 on the pitch following drainage problems.

B.C. prison locked down after inmates set fires

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. _ Matsqui prison in suburban Abbotsford is under lockdown after inmates set fires in the exercise yard to protest their privacy concerns.

Dave Lefebvre, a spokesman for the medium-security facility, said Saturday that inmates were unhappy after recent media reports about a woman being stopped at the gate when her toddler's stroller tested positive for cocaine.

He said the 170 inmates who took part in the protest that began at about 9 p.m. Friday refused to return to their living units.

They then set fire to garbage, foliage and a gazebo-like structure in the yard, he said.

A negotiator and an emergency response team were brought in to help escort inmates back to their cells and the transfer was complete by 3:30 a.m. Saturday, when the lockdown began, Lefebvre said.

DENR orders closure of hog farm in Tarlac

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources has ordered the closure of a hog farm in Tarlac and imposed fines on candy and paper manufacturing firms in Cavite for water pollution violations.

The Pollution Adjudication Board, headed by Environment Secretary Lito Atienza, issued the cease and desist order on Jan. 24 against Charity Farm located at Barangay Malacampa in Camiling town for its repeated failure to establish water pollution measures since February 2006.

The PAB said its inspections and testing showed that the farm exceeded standards on water effluents set under RA 9275 (Clean Water Act).

According to the board, the farm's owner failed to do something about it despite several warnings.

Added to the violation, the farm also did not have an environmental compliance certificate.

Scavenging for Superdelegates

As we went to bed last night, the juicy New York Times headline "Black Leader, a Clinton Ally, Tilts to Obama" tucked us in. The story explained the soon-to-be defection of Georgia Rep. John Lewis from Hillary Clinton's camp to Barack Obama's. Lewis is a superdelegate and a civil rights leader whose district voted overwhelmingly for Barack Obama in Georgia's Super Tuesday primary. If he officially defected, his change of heart was thought to be a bellwhether for all of Clinton's superdelegates whose districts voted for Obama. The Times reported that Lewis "said Thursday night that he planned to cast his vote as a superdelegate for Senator Barack Obama in hopes of preventing a fight at the Democratic convention," but that Lewis was still weighing whether to officially endorse Obama.

But after changing his mind on Clinton, he may be changing his mind on Obama.

The unkindest bites are the human ones

It is estimated that there are between 3-6 million animal bites per year in the U.S, that 80-90 percent are dog bites, and 5-15 percent come from cats. About 1 million people each year seek care in the emergency room for dog or cat bites.

Dogs have strong jaws and relatively dull teeth. Wounds caused by dog bites tend to involve more crushing, tearing and lacerations rather than puncture wounds. Crushed tissues are particularly susceptible to infection. Dog bites occur most frequently on the extremities (upper slightly more often than lower), followed by the head and neck.

Small children receive more bites to the face, neck or head because they're near a dog's mouth. There are about 15-20 fatalities a year as a result of dog bites; most involve infants and young children.
